How to Organize Your Life for the New Year

2015 is gone, and if you’re looking back at the past wondering why you were so disorganized, you’re not alone. Somehow through work hours, time spent in networking groups, generating sales leads, and spending time with the family… it all seems like a blur.

Having a messy schedule can seriously disrupt your ability to make money in 2016. Not only is it important to continue networking with leads groups, but having some time to yourself to regroup and do your favorite hobbies or spend time with friends and family is equally important.

You might even notice that you’re more productive after returning from your Holiday break- and for a good reason. Emily Hunter and Cindy Wu are associate professors from Baylor University's School of Business, and conducted a study to research the effectiveness of taking breaks. The results were astounding. After surveying 95 employees over the course of a week, they had a total of 959 break surveys to analyze.

They learned the following:

  • The best time to take a break is in the mid-morning.
  • Breaks should include what you want to do, whether they are work related or not.
  • Employees who took mid-morning breaks doing activities that they enjoyed experienced increased job satisfaction and organizational citizenship behavior, and decreased emotional exhaustion.
  • Frequent short breaks are more productive than long breaks.
